In the winter of 2019, the life of Karlos Laverne Gold Jr., a 29-year-old Black/African American man from Des Moines, Iowa, was tragically cut short. On the afternoon of Monday, December 2, 2019, Gold was discovered with a gunshot wound inside a truck parked in the 600 block of 18th Street, located in the Sherman Hill neighborhood of Des Moines.
