In the winter of 2019, the life of Karlos Laverne Gold Jr., a 29-year-old Black/African American man from Des Moines, Iowa, was tragically cut short. On the afternoon of Monday, December 2, 2019, Gold was discovered with a gunshot wound inside a truck parked in the 600 block of 18th Street, located in the Sherman Hill neighborhood of Des Moines. Despite being rushed to the hospital, his injuries proved fatal.
The investigation into the death of Karlos Gold Jr.
quickly became a homicide case for the Des Moines Police Department. Their efforts led to a significant breakthrough just a few days later. On the evening of Thursday, December 5, 2019, authorities located and arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting. The individual taken into custody was 39-year-old Wayne Jemerigbe.
Following his arrest in the 1900 block of College Avenue, Wayne Jemerigbe was charged with first-degree murder for his alleged role in the death of Karlos Gold Jr. In addition to the murder charge, Jemerigbe also faced a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was subsequently booked into the Polk County Jail to await his initial court appearance.
