On August 6, 2022, Scott Alan Crane, a 51-year-old resident of Des Moines, Iowa, was the victim of a homicide. The incident occurred at 340 Northeast 46th Avenue in Des Moines.

The investigation led to the identification of a person of interest, later charged with the murder. Courtney Smith, a 38-year-old individual, was accused of killing Scott Alan Crane. Smith was subsequently charged with murder in connection with Crane's death.
