In the early morning hours of August 2, 2020, Jennifer Hicks, a 20-year-old Caucasian female, was fatally shot in a commuter parking lot in Manchester, Connecticut. She was in a vehicle with 24-year-old Gregory Scott and another individual at the time of the incident. The group had traveled to the commuter lot to attend a "car meetup" and race that originated in Springfield, Massachusetts.
According to her mother, Jennifer was a student in cosmetology school with a passion for doing hair and makeup and was not typically interested in such events, suggesting she was tragically in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The shooting was not a random act of violence but was rooted in a gang-related conflict. The intended target of the shooting was Gregory Scott, who was a member of a rival gang to the shooter. Witnesses reported that a truck parked next to the Jeep Scott was driving. A man exited the truck, approached the Jeep, and fired multiple shots into the vehicle. Jennifer Hicks was struck by the gunfire and died at the scene, while Gregory Scott succumbed to his injuries two days later.
In November 2020, authorities arrested 21-year-old Gregory Allan Crichlow of Springfield, Massachusetts, in connection with the double murder. Surveillance footage from a gas station showed Crichlow following Scott before the shooting. Following his arrest, Crichlow was charged with two counts of murder. In March 2024, a jury found Gregory Crichlow guilty of two counts of murder and one count of murder with special circumstances. Subsequently, in June 2024, he was sentenced to life in prison for the murders of Jennifer Hicks and Gregory Scott.
