On July 28, 2016, Demarius Roseman, a 19-year-old male, was shot and killed in Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred amidst a surge of violence that had gripped the city throughout that summer, making 2016 one of the deadliest years in recent memory. Roseman was shot in the West Side area of Chicago, where gun violence had been pervasive, with frequent incidents largely attributed to ongoing gang conflicts and the easy availability of firearms.
