Roy Bergman, aged 21, was shot and killed on July 30, 2016, in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. He was one of the many victims of gun violence during what was one of Chicago's deadliest years in recent history. The incident occurred amid a spike in homicides throughout the city in 2016, a year that saw more than 760 people killed, making it the most violent year in Chicago since the 1990s.
