On September 5, 2016, Charles Smith III, a 22-year-old African American male, was fatally shot in Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, where Smith and another 22-year-old African American male, Dequan Trimble, were killed in a mass shooting that also left three others injured.
