Alfred Werner, male, served as a deputy sheriff with the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas. On August 6, 1895, near Presley Junction in Crittenden County, he was fatally shot while participating in an attempted arrest at a man’s home. Accounts note that Werner was working alongside two other officers when they reached the residence; as the other officers went inside, Werner remained outside and was struck by gunfire, suffering a fatal wound.
