On September 4, 1971, a tragic incident unfolded at the Basore family's farm near Mount Olive in the Ozark Mountains of northwestern Arkansas. The family had gathered for a reunion, and the evening was set for a meal and conversation. Among the attendees were George Basore Jr., aged 49, his father George Basore Sr., aged 71, his mother Wilma Iola Nettleship Basore, aged 70, his son-in-law Obie Harmon, aged 49, and his wife Elinore Basore, aged 45.
