On June 30, 1984, Arkansas State Trooper Louis Perry Bryant, aged 37, was fatally shot during a routine traffic stop on U.S. Highway 71 near De Queen, Arkansas. A Vietnam War veteran who had served with the Arkansas State Police for a decade, Trooper Bryant was conducting the stop when he was attacked by Richard Snell, a member of a white supremacist group known as The Covenant, the Sword, and the Arm of the Lord (CSA).
