On a summer evening in Blytheville, Arkansas, a basketball game among friends turned into a scene of tragedy. Vincent Stone, a 22-year-old Black male, was enjoying a game at Williams Park on June 22, 2015, when his life was abruptly cut short. Two men approached him and opened fire, shooting him multiple times before fleeing the scene. The sudden violence left the park in disarray and a young man fighting for his life.
Stone was rushed to Great River Medical Center, but the severity of his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The Blytheville Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the brazen homicide. Their efforts led to the identification of two suspects: Daniel 'DyNasty' Johnson, who was 24 at the time, and 25-year-old Anfernee Xavier Wells. Arrest warrants were issued for both men in connection with the fatal shooting of Vincent Stone. The search for the suspects began, with law enforcement determined to bring them to justice for the senseless act of violence that had shaken the community.
In August 2015, Daniel Johnson was apprehended by authorities. His case proceeded to trial, and in April 2016, a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder. Testimonies from witnesses who were at the park that day painted a clear picture of the events that transpired. Based on the evidence and witness accounts, the court sentenced Johnson to life in prison, with an additional 15 years for a firearm enhancement, ensuring he would be held accountable for his role in the murder.
The second suspect, Anfernee Wells, managed to evade capture for a longer period. However, his time as a fugitive eventually came to an end. Following his arrest, Wells also faced a trial for his involvement in Vincent Stone's death. In July 2017, a Mississippi County jury found Anfernee Wells guilty of first-degree murder. He was subsequently sentenced to 40 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections. The convictions of both Johnson and Wells brought a measure of closure to the family of Vincent Stone and the Blytheville community.
