In the quiet woods of western Newton County, Arkansas, a hunting trip ended in tragedy on a Thursday in early December 2015. Aaron Douglas Villines, a 42-year-old male resident of Kingston, was deer hunting with a companion near Elkhorn Church. The crisp air of the hunt turned somber when Villines, born on October 14, 1973, was fatally wounded in what authorities would later describe as a heartbreaking accident.
According to the Newton County Sheriff's office, the unfortunate event
unfolded as Villines and his fellow hunter were making their way to check on a deer that one of them had shot. It was during this walk that Villines reportedly slipped on a moss-covered rock. The fall caused the loaded rifle he was carrying to discharge, striking him in the chest. The wound proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident was determined to be an accidental shooting, and as a result, there were no arrests made or suspects sought in connection with his death. The community was left to mourn the sudden and unexpected loss of a man who was an avid outdoorsman. Villines, a 1992 graduate of Springdale High School, was remembered by his family and friends as someone who loved hunting and fishing but cherished spending time with his loved ones above all else.
