A tense standoff in Little Rock, Arkansas, on Sunday, November 6, 2016, ended in the tragic death of 46-year-old Tracie White, a Black female. The events unfolded after police were called to a home around 11 a.m. for a reported hostage situation. Authorities had been alerted by a woman who received a text message indicating that another woman was being held against her will inside the residence.
Upon arrival, Little Rock police identified the individuals inside as Tracie White and
41-year-old Tyron Humphrey. Believing it to be a hostage crisis, law enforcement surrounded the home and attempted to make contact with the occupants using a loudspeaker. After several hours with no response, officers made the decision to force their way into the house.
Once inside, police discovered both White and Humphrey deceased in the attic from apparent gunshot wounds. The investigation led authorities to believe that Humphrey shot and killed White before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide. It was later reported that there was a history of violence between the couple. As the sole suspect in White's death also died at the scene, the case concluded without any arrests.
