On a cold January evening in Little Rock, Arkansas, the life of 38-year-old Christopher Carter was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. The incident, which unfolded on January 4, 2019, also claimed the life of another man, 56-year-old Robert Curlett, marking a grim start to the new year as the city's first homicide.
The two men were discovered with gunshot wounds in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Emergency services were called to the scene, but the injuries sustained by both Carter and Curlett proved to be fatal. One of the men was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital, while the other was driven to a separate medical facility where he too succumbed to his wounds.
In the days that followed the double homicide, the Little Rock Police Department launched an investigation into the killings. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect, Matthew Chism. Subsequently, Chism was arrested and faced serious charges in connection with the deaths of Christopher Carter and Robert Curlett. He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, bringing a measure of progress in a case that had shaken the community.
