In the early morning hours of Sunday, May 1, 2022, the life of 33-year-old Olga Irene Huerta was tragically cut short in Springdale, Arkansas. Officers from the Springdale Police Department were dispatched to the 3000 block of Butterfield Coach Rd. just before 7 a.m. following a report of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered a harrowing scene: a female, later identified as Olga Irene Huerta, was found lying face down in the yard of a residence.
She had sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to neighbors, a party had taken place at the home, lasting into the early hours of the morning. The festive atmosphere of the gathering gave way to a grim investigation as police began to piece together the events that led to Huerta's death. Through witness accounts, investigators were able to identify a suspect in the homicide.
The investigation quickly pointed to 52-year-old Ignacio Rivera-Perez of Springdale. A warrant for his arrest on charges of capital murder was issued. By just after 10 p.m. that same Sunday, Rivera-Perez was located and apprehended in San Marcos, Texas, bringing a swift, though not final, development to the case. The investigation into the death of Olga Irene Huerta is ongoing.
