Lavontae White, a 2-year-old boy, was tragically killed in a shooting on February 14, 2017, in Chicago. The incident occurred as Lavontae, his aunt, Breunna Devonte, and her boyfriend were driving through Chicago when a gunman cut them off and opened fire. Lavontae and his aunt’s boyfriend were both shot in the head and later pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital. The attack, which was believed to be gang-related, was captured on Facebook Live as Devonte was filming their journey at the time of the shooting.
The police believed the shooting was targeted, linked to gang conflicts involving Devonte's boyfriend, who was reported to be a documented gang member. The shooting left Devonte, who was pregnant, wounded, but she survived along with her unborn baby. Lavontae's death marked the second child to be killed in a shooting in Chicago that week, emphasizing the urgent issues surrounding gang violence and gun crime in the city. Chicago Police reported that they had promising leads in the investigation.
