Thomas Joseph Farnsworth, a 57-year-old man from Grass Lake, Michigan, was tragically killed on December 7, 2024. A devoted husband and father of two, Farnsworth was a U.S. Army veteran and a longtime employee at Dexter Fastener Technologies. He was known for his kind heart, sharp humor, and willingness to help others. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
On that Saturday, events unfolded when police were called to perform a wellness check.
Farnsworth had gone to his neighbor's property to get an exact address for law enforcement. While on the phone with the police in the driveway of his neighbor's home, a gunshot was heard, and Farnsworth was no longer responsive. Officers arriving at the scene shortly before 2 p.m. discovered Farnsworth deceased in the driveway.
Upon further investigation at the property, police found a second victim, 70-year-old Shari Lynn Schweda, inside her bedroom. Her son, 40-year-old Roger Schweda, was identified as the suspect in both deaths. He was arrested in connection with the double homicide.
Roger Schweda was subsequently arraigned on two counts of open murder and two counts of felony firearms. He is expected to have further court proceedings. The incident has been described as a 'gruesome scene' and has left the community to mourn the loss of both individuals.
