On January 15, 2023, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Bryant Alfred "Hoss" Ellis, a 60-year-old resident of Crockett, Texas, entered the emergency room of Crockett Medical Center, reporting that he had been shot. Despite medical efforts, Ellis succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter, prompting the Houston County Sheriff's Office to initiate a homicide investigation.
In the days following Ellis's death, investigators processed the crime scene, collected evidence, and submitted it to the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Lab for forensic analysis. They also conducted numerous interviews and pursued leads daily. Due to the active nature of the investigation, the Sheriff's Office limited the release of information to protect the case's integrity.
