The gathering, attended by approximately 50 students and friends from Cleburne and Grandview, took place at a residence on County Road 913. A physical altercation broke out during the event, culminating in multiple gunshots that struck Moblin in the backyard of the home. He was transported to a Fort Worth hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries three days later.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the perpetrator, identified as 20-year-old Spencer Orlando Gilbert II, fled the scene with several individuals. Investigators quickly gathered evidence, including videos capturing the fight preceding the shooting and social media posts where Gilbert allegedly boasted about the incident while displaying the firearm used. Authorities tracked Gilbert to Houston, where he led police on a brief high-speed chase before crashing his vehicle and attempting to flee on foot. He was apprehended, and a search of his car revealed multiple firearms, including the murder weapon.
Gilbert faced multiple charges, including murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. In December 2023, he pleaded guilty to these charges. The court sentenced him to 55 years in prison, with eligibility for parole after serving half of his sentence, meaning he could be considered for release in 2051.
