On April 29, 2023, 52-year-old Cassandra Downey of Childress, Texas, was fatally shot in Memphis, Texas. The Memphis Police Department promptly sought assistance from the Texas Rangers to investigate the homicide. A suspect was taken into custody shortly thereafter; however, authorities have not publicly disclosed the individual's identity. The case remains under active investigation, with findings to be submitted to the 100th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
