Darlis Nkolomoni, an 18-year-old from Chicago, was tragically shot and killed on April 25, 2017, in the Rogers Park neighborhood. His family had fled violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1999, seeking safety in the U.S. after experiencing political turmoil and unrest. Sadly, despite escaping war, Nkolomoni fell victim to the violence they hoped to leave behind. He was pursuing his education, working toward his GED at Truman College, when his life was cut short by gun violence.
