On June 16, 2023, Daniel Piedra Garcia, a 52-year-old Uber driver from El Paso, Texas, was fatally shot during a ride. The incident occurred when he picked up a passenger, later identified as 48-year-old Phoebe Copas from Kentucky. Copas has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting.
