On July 3, 2023, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Dallas police responded to a shooting call in the 5600 block of Pickfair Circle, located near the Medical District. Upon arrival, officers discovered 58-year-old Leonette Deshee Thompson inside her residence, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the prompt response from Dallas Fire-Rescue, Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations revealed that an unidentified vehicle had approached Thompson's home shortly before the shooting. Surveillance footage captured a gold-colored SUV, possibly a four-door model, driving down Riverside Drive, which runs parallel to Pickfair Circle. The vehicle circled the area, stopped in front of Thompson's residence, and multiple shots were fired into the home. Tragically, one of these bullets struck Thompson as she slept. She managed to get up and run into her boyfriend’s bedroom before collapsing.
As of December 2024, no arrests have been made in connection with Thompson's death. The Dallas Police Department continues to seek assistance from the public in identifying the suspect or suspects involved. Detective Abel Lopez is leading the investigation and has urged anyone with information to come forward. Crime Stoppers has offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
The community has expressed deep sorrow over Thompson's untimely death. Friends and family remember her as a lively and happy individual who worked at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, where she was well-regarded by her colleagues. Her passing has left a void in the lives of those who knew her, and the ongoing search for her killer underscores the community's desire for justice.
