On July 4, 2023, at approximately 12:35 a.m., the Harrison County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting in the Ore City/Lazy Lakes area of Texas. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 35-year-old Jeremy David Vick suffering from a gunshot wound. He was promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Following an investigation, authorities identified 36-year-old Kristopher Dylan Ratcliff as a suspect in the case.
On July 21, 2023, a warrant was issued for Ratcliff's arrest, charging him with multiple offenses, including first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Ratcliff was subsequently apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Bangor, Maine. He is currently awaiting extradition to Texas, where he will face the aforementioned charges.
Jeremy Vick, born on August 28, 1988, in Longview, Texas, was known for his generous spirit and willingness to assist others. He had a deep affection for animals, often rescuing those in need, and enjoyed fishing and drawing. Vick was also recognized for his mechanical skills, frequently working on various projects. He is survived by his parents, siblings, grandparents, and nieces, who remember him fondly for his kindness and talents.
Funeral services for Vick were held on July 12, 2023, at Peace Fellowship in Diana, Texas, officiated by Pastor Greg Moulton. Family and friends gathered to honor his memory and celebrate his life.
