On July 5, 2023, at approximately 2:15 a.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting call in the 4600 block of Village Fair Drive. Upon arrival, officers found 19-year-old Josef Amar Treece lying on the ground with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene by Dallas Fire and Rescue.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Treece and another individual were passengers in a vehicle when an altercation occurred, leading to shots being fired from outside the vehicle.
A second male victim was also struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital in a private vehicle, where he was reported to be in stable condition. A third male was injured and taken to an area hospital by private vehicle.
As of the latest available information, authorities have not identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the fatal shooting. The investigation is ongoing as detectives work to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident.
Josef was born on January 27, 2004, in Ennis, Texas, and attended schools in Ferris and Red Oak. He had a passion for playing paintball as a teenager and enjoyed spending time with friends on weekends. Known for his sense of humor, Josef loved making others laugh and was deeply protective of his family, especially his mother, to whom he was very close. Before his passing, he was preparing to attend schooling for underwater welding, a new interest he had developed.
A memorial service for Josef was held on August 5, 2023, at Green Funeral Home in Red Oak, Texas. He is survived by his mother, brothers, grandmother, and other extended family members who remember him fondly for his gentle nature and dedication to loved ones.
