On August 31, 2023, a tragic incident unfolded at the Teapioca Lounge in Austin's Arboretum Shopping Center. At approximately 5 p.m., 38-year-old Tang-Kang Dave Chiang entered the establishment and opened fire, fatally wounding 64-year-old Laura Jauregui and critically injuring another woman. Chiang then turned the gun on himself, dying at the scene.
