On March 27, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff's Office deputies conducted a welfare check at a residence in the 25900 block of Avenue C in Dobbin, Texas, near Montgomery. Inside, they discovered the bodies of 61-year-old Cathryn "Cathy" Overbay Wright and her husband, 62-year-old Stacy Wright, both deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
Family members had grown concerned after being unable to reach the couple, prompting the welfare check. The preliminary investigation suggests that this was an isolated incident involving only the two deceased individuals. Authorities have not disclosed specific details regarding the circumstances or motive behind the shootings, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Cathryn, known as Cathy, was born on December 21, 1962, in Conroe, Texas, to Cecil and Melba Overbay. She graduated from Montgomery High School in 1981 and worked with her family at Mock’s Grocery in Dobbin before spending 25 years with Germania – Allphin Insurance in Montgomery. Stacy Wright, born on September 29, 1962, in Houston, Texas, to Gary D. Wright and Betty Harris Vick, also graduated from Montgomery High School in 1981. He was employed with Conway Trucking, now XPO Logistics, for 33 years. The couple married on March 13, 1989, in Las Vegas and recently celebrated their 35th anniversary. They are survived by their two sons, Joshua Allen Wright and Jerid Ashton Wright.
A Celebration of Life was held on April 20, 2024, at the Dobbin Community Center, where family and friends gathered to honor the memory of Stacy and Cathy Wright. The community continues to mourn the loss of the couple, offering condolences and support to their surviving family members during this difficult time.
