On April 15, 2024, 27-year-old Ricardo Vega was found deceased in his vehicle at a stop sign on West Canino Road near the North Freeway in north Houston. Vega, a father of two young children, had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Prior to the shooting, Vega had called 911, reporting that he was following a driver involved in a hit-and-run incident and that the individual was flashing a weapon at him.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Osman Estanly Solorzano Sanchez, was arrested on April 22, 2024, by the Houston Police Department's North Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team. He has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence. Authorities allege that after the shooting, Solorzano Sanchez attempted to alter the appearance of his tan Chevrolet pickup truck to evade detection, including removing distinctive features and sanding off the paint.
Surveillance footage obtained from nearby businesses showed Vega's vehicle following Solorzano Sanchez's truck shortly before the shooting. Both vehicles were seen running stop signs in the area. Additionally, a witness driving behind the two vehicles captured the incident on a dash camera, providing crucial evidence for the investigation.
Vega's mother, Victoria Garcia, expressed profound grief over the loss of her son, describing him as a loving father whose smile could light up a room. She has called for justice, stating, "I forgive you, but I want you to also pay for what you did to my son." Vega is survived by his 8-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son.
