On June 3, 2024, Larry Wayne Land, a 72-year-old resident of Waller, Texas, was found deceased in his home from an apparent gunshot wound. The discovery was made after the Navasota Police Department requested a welfare check, following the arrest of his son, 29-year-old Joshua Land, for a separate incident.
Two days prior, on June 1, Joshua Land was arrested in Navasota after allegedly shooting and killing his dog in the parking lot of Annie’s Country Store. He was charged with animal cruelty, deadly conduct, disorderly conduct, and possession of marijuana.
Following Joshua's arrest, Navasota police requested a welfare check on his father, Larry Land, leading to the discovery of Larry's body. The Waller County Sheriff’s Office initiated a homicide investigation, and Joshua Land was subsequently charged with his father's murder.
Neighbors reported that Joshua Land was a known drug user with a history of altercations with his father, including previous arrests for allegedly fighting him. At the time of his arrest for animal cruelty, Joshua was held in the Grimes County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
Larry Land was born on February 22, 1952, in Waller, Texas, and passed away on June 3, 2024. He was laid to rest in Springer Macedonia Cemetery in Hegar, Waller County.
