On the evening of June 30, 2017, Javon Jackson, a 30-year-old African-American male, was fatally shot in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. He was on the porch of a residence located in the 5700 block of South Wells Street when two assailants approached and opened fire. Jackson sustained eight gunshot wounds and was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead later that night.
The attack also claimed the lives of two other African-American men: Sedrick Ringer, aged 50, who was also on the porch and suffered nine gunshot wounds, and John Hunter, aged 52, who was inside the house and was struck by a stray bullet. Hunter's body was discovered two days later by family members searching the residence.
Following the shooting, the perpetrators, identified as Timothy Gordon, 19, and Jayton Dorsey, 21, fled the scene on foot and entered a white Pontiac Grand Prix parked nearby. They led police on a high-speed chase along the Dan Ryan Expressway, which ended when they crashed the vehicle into an embankment. The suspects then attempted to escape on foot, scaling a barbed-wire fence into an Illinois Department of Transportation parking lot, where they discarded a. 45-caliber pistol. A. 40-caliber handgun was also recovered from the scene. Police apprehended both men shortly thereafter in a nearby building.
Ballistic analysis confirmed that shell casings from the crime scene matched the recovered firearms. In total, investigators found 43 shell casings outside the residence: 16 from a. 40-caliber weapon, 11 from a. 45-caliber, and 16 from a 9mm firearm.
At their bond hearing, Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. denied bail for both Gordon and Dorsey, citing the severity of the crime. He described their actions as 'acts of horror and terror,' emphasizing the danger they posed to the community.
