On the night of July 19, 2023, at approximately 11:20 p.m., a tragic shooting occurred at Petit Park, part of the Granada Hills Recreation Center in Los Angeles. Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Petit Avenue and Chatsworth Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 16-year-old Thomas Kornswiet, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
