On July 24, 2023, 26-year-old Taylorraven Whittaker and 36-year-old Jorge Ramos were found fatally shot inside a bullet-riddled blue Subaru sedan at Pelican Cove Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. A hiker discovered the vehicle around 6:50 a.m. and alerted authorities. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations revealed that Whittaker and Ramos were in a dating relationship. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department classified their deaths as homicides resulting from multiple gunshot wounds.

In the days following the discovery, six individuals were arrested in connection with this double homicide. These suspects are believed to be members of a criminal street gang responsible for targeting victims in secluded scenic areas with poor cellular reception, such as Pelican Cove Park. Authorities suspect the same group was involved in a similar incident two days earlier, where 32-year-old Jesse Munoz was fatally shot during a robbery on Angeles Crest Highway in Pasadena.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office charged three of the suspects—Luis Ventura, 24; Marco Antonio Hernandez, 18; and Abraham Ernesto Alvarenga Cortez, 21—with murder and robbery related to Munoz's death. Ventura pleaded not guilty and awaited a preliminary hearing, while Hernandez and Cortez were scheduled for arraignment. A fourth suspect involved in Munoz's case remained unidentified.

As of the latest available information, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department continued to investigate the Rancho Palos Verdes double homicide. While authorities believed there was a connection between the two cases, no specific details about the link were disclosed. The investigation remained active, with detectives working to gather more evidence and determine the full extent of the suspects' involvement in these and potentially other crimes across Los Angeles County.
