On September 2, 2023, at approximately 12:58 p.m., 23-year-old Daniel Le Shawn Welch of Long Beach was fatally shot while driving in a business area of Compton, California. The incident occurred near the intersection of Bullis Road and Rosecrans Avenue. After being shot in the upper body, Welch continued driving a short distance before colliding head-on with another vehicle on Long Beach Boulevard. He was the sole occupant of his vehicle.
