On September 21, 2023, 24-year-old Alonna Gallon was fatally shot at her workplace, the Toyota of Berkeley Service Center in Albany, California. The assailant was identified as Lamar Walker, also 24, and the father of Gallon's 7-year-old son, King. The incident has been classified as an act of domestic violence.
According to reports, Walker entered the service center around 11:15 a.m. and approached Gallon, who was working in the service department.
He initially brought her a coffee earlier that day before returning with a handgun. Without warning, Walker shot Gallon in the head at point-blank range, resulting in her immediate death. After the shooting, Walker attempted to take his own life but was unsuccessful.
Law enforcement officers from both Albany and Berkeley Police Departments responded promptly to the active shooter reports. Upon arrival, they evacuated the building and conducted a systematic search for victims and the suspect. On the second floor, officers found Walker crouched near a desk, pointing a silver revolver at the entryway. In response to the perceived threat, five officers discharged their firearms, striking Walker multiple times. Both Gallon and Walker were pronounced dead at the scene.
The tragic event has left their son, King, orphaned. Family members have expressed profound grief and have initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support King's future, including therapy and educational expenses. Gallon was remembered as an incredibly kind and caring individual, deeply loved by her family and friends.
Investigations by the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, Albany Police Department, and the Alameda County District Attorney's Office are ongoing. Authorities have emphasized that this was not a random act but a senseless act of violence stemming from domestic issues. The community continues to mourn the loss of Gallon and grapples with the impact of domestic violence.
