On October 22, 2023, in Klamath, California, 38-year-old Randall Flesher was fatally shot. The incident occurred around 11:40 a.m. on the 17400 block of South U.S. 101. The suspect, 22-year-old Dylon Rhodes, contacted emergency services, reporting that he had accidentally shot his friend.
First responders from the Yurok Tribal Police Department and the Del Norte County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene and found Flesher with a gunshot wound to his upper left chest.
Despite attempts to revive him through CPR, Flesher was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rhodes was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. The Del Norte County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the Yurok Tribal Police Department, the California Department of Justice, and the Del Norte County District Attorney's Office, initiated an investigation to determine whether the shooting was accidental, as claimed by Rhodes. Evidence collected by the Department of Justice Crime Lab is under review to assist in this determination.
As of the latest available information, the investigation remains ongoing, with authorities analyzing the evidence to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Flesher's death. The Del Norte County District Attorney is also reviewing the case to decide on the appropriate course of prosecution.
