On February 5, 2024, 59-year-old Jonathan Mauk of Highland, California, was fatally shot in the parking lot of a local Walmart following a minor vehicle collision. Mauk, a father of three and grandfather of two, had visited the store around 8 p.m. to purchase ingredients for his homemade beef jerky.
