On February 20, 2024, 26-year-old Jaqueline Ceballos Vega was fatally shot in her residence located at 6003 Meridian Street in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the head, classifying the manner of death as homicide.
The Los Angeles Police Department reported the shooting occurred at approximately 2:08 p.m., with formal pronouncement of death made later that evening at
7:09 p.m. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with this case, and the suspect or suspects remain unidentified.
In the wake of this tragedy, Jaqueline's family initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses and to support the two young children she left behind, both under the age of two. Her mother, Alejandra Ceballos, described Jaqueline as a devoted mother and a compassionate individual who always extended help to those in need, especially the less fortunate.
The community has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Jaqueline, with numerous individuals lighting virtual candles in her memory and sharing condolences on memorial platforms. Despite the outpouring of support, the lack of progress in identifying and apprehending those responsible for her death continues to be a source of frustration and grief for her family and the Highland Park community.
