Described by her mother, Rosemary Aceves, as an honor roll student who loved her family, baking, and her cats, Kaitlyn was looking forward to celebrating her 19th birthday in May.
In the early hours of that fateful Friday, Kaitlyn had informed her mother via FaceTime that she was going shopping with a friend. However, at approximately 4:05 a.m., she sent a text message to a cousin asking for help. Shortly thereafter, she was found fatally wounded in the park. In May 2024, nearly two months after the incident, 23-year-old Francisco Ramirez was arrested by Border Patrol officials in connection with Kaitlyn's death. He was subsequently booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on homicide charges.
