On June 29, 2024, 40-year-old Montebello resident Roland Michael Ortiz was fatally shot in the chest. He was pronounced dead at 8:35 p.m. in a Los Angeles County hospital.
Prior to his death, Ortiz had a history of legal issues. In July 2019, at age 39, he was arrested by the Norwalk Sheriff Substation for possessing a firearm and controlled substances. Later, in May 2022, he was arrested by the Pico Rivera Sheriff Substation on robbery charges.
