On November 7, 2024, at approximately 12:15 a.m., 17-year-old Juan Melendez Jr. and 18-year-old Denzell Guzman were fatally shot in Los Angeles' Mount Washington neighborhood. The incident occurred near a lookout point on the 1400 block of Cliff Drive. According to witnesses, a group of assailants approached the two teenagers, opened fire, and then fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle.
First responders arrived promptly, but both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office later identified the victims and confirmed that both died from gunshot wounds to the head.
Friends and community members revealed that both Melendez Jr. and Guzman were high school students in the area. A GoFundMe campaign was organized to support Juan's family, describing him as "a loving, kind, passionate, dedicated and gifted young man who was robbed of a bright and promising future."
As of now, the Los Angeles Police Department has not released any descriptions of the suspects involved, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Authorities are actively investigating the case and have urged anyone with information to contact LAPD Central Bureau Homicide detectives.
