On a Saturday afternoon in Knoxville, Tennessee, the life of 25-year-old Artimeyo Folks, a male visitor from Detroit, Michigan, was tragically cut short. On March 11, 2023, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a call around 1 p.m. in the 1600 block of Reed Street. Upon arrival at the Western Heights apartment complex, they discovered Folks on the ground outside, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
He was immediately transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify two suspects, 26-year-old Ronald Rogers and 29-year-old Carissa Rogers, both from Knoxville. As the investigation progressed, warrants were obtained for their arrests. The couple was located and taken into custody on Monday, May 8, 2023, at a residence in Mobile, Alabama, by members of the Mobile County Sheriff's Office.
Following their apprehension, the Knoxville Police Department's Homicide Unit detectives prepared for their extradition back to Knox County to face charges. Ronald Rogers was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Artimeyo Folks. Carissa Rogers faced a charge of accessory after the fact. The Knoxville Police Department publicly expressed their gratitude to the Mobile County Sheriff's Office for their assistance in the swift capture of the two suspects. Two homicide detectives were dispatched to Mobile to further the investigation as arrangements were made for the couple's return to Tennessee to answer for their alleged roles in the death of Artimeyo Folks.
