On July 23, 2017, Herman Bailey, a 34-year-old from Knoxville, Tennessee, was shot outside the Austin Homes apartment complex. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning during a gathering of approximately 40 to 50 people in the parking lot. An argument escalated into gunfire, critically injuring Bailey. He was transported to Fort Sanders Medical Center, and later to UT Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on July 27, 2017.
