On June 2, 2023, 64-year-old Clifton Earl Johnson of Hooversville, Pennsylvania, was fatally shot in Shade Township. Authorities responded to a 911 call from 67-year-old Gregory John Mostoller, who reported, "A guy came at me with a wrench, and I killed him." Upon arrival at the scene on Charles Street, state police discovered Johnson's body partially beneath a sliding barn door, having sustained approximately seven gunshot wounds, including injuries to his back, right bicep, and right eye.
