In the quiet city of Erie, Pennsylvania, a tragedy unfolded, leaving a family and community in mourning. Janikqua Shawntece Evonne Anderson, a 23-year-old female, lost her life on August 19, 2023, in a devastating act of violence that also claimed the life of her younger brother.
On that fateful day, the lives of Janikqua and her 16-year-old brother, Treavon Hopkins, were cut short in what law enforcement officials have described as a double murder-suicide.
The incident sent shockwaves through their neighborhood and left friends and loved ones grappling with the sudden and profound loss.
The perpetrator was identified as 24-year-old Romel Kuhn. After fatally shooting Janikqua and Treavon, Kuhn then turned the gun on himself, dying at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Because the suspect took his own life, there were no arrests or subsequent criminal proceedings.
