On the evening of Thursday, August 24, 2023, a violent outburst of gunfire shattered the night on the 700 block of Daly Street in South Philadelphia. When Philadelphia Police officers arrived at the scene at 8:52 p.m., they discovered 38-year-old Charles Fickling lying in the street, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body. He was a Black male who resided on South 76th Street in the Eastwick neighborhood of the city.
Fickling was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his
injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead by medical personnel. The shooting, which claimed Fickling's life, also left two other men wounded. A 31-year-old man was shot in the arm, and a 28-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. Both of these men were transported to Jefferson Hospital and were listed in stable condition.
In the wake of the triple shooting, the Philadelphia Police Department launched an investigation into the incident. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Charles Fickling, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. The case remains an open and active investigation, and officials have encouraged anyone in the community with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward and contact the Philadelphia Police Department.
