On the evening of Thursday, August 24, 2023, a violent outburst of gunfire shattered the night on the 700 block of Daly Street in South Philadelphia. When Philadelphia Police officers arrived at the scene at 8:52 p.m., they discovered 38-year-old Charles Fickling lying in the street, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body. He was a Black male who resided on South 76th Street in the Eastwick neighborhood of the city.
