On the morning of November 24, 2017, Manuel Salazar, a 22-year-old Hispanic male, was fatally shot while seated as a passenger in a vehicle in Chicago's East Side neighborhood. The incident occurred at approximately 10:18 a.m. in the 10000 block of South Avenue M, when an assailant in another vehicle opened fire. Salazar sustained a gunshot wound to the back and was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:09 a.m.
An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as a homicide resulting from the gunshot wound.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of 19-year-old Alec Aguilar, also a resident of the East Side neighborhood.
