On April 12, 2023, 15-year-old Joyonna Pearsall tragically lost her life during a spring break pool party in Goldsboro, North Carolina. The event, held at a residence on North Leslie Street, was attended by over 100 individuals, predominantly teenagers. Witnesses reported that an altercation between two men escalated, leading to a barrage of gunfire. In the chaos, six teenagers sustained gunshot wounds; Joyonna was fatally struck and pronounced dead at the scene.
