On August 7, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m., 20-year-old John Davis was fatally shot during a home invasion on Camland Circle, east of Sharpsburg, North Carolina. According to the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office, three armed men forcibly entered the residence, demanding money from the occupants. During the robbery, Davis was shot and killed, and the assailants fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
In the initial aftermath, authorities sought public assistance to identify and apprehend the three suspects involved in the crime. Investigators worked to determine whether the attack was random or targeted, noting that several other individuals were present in the home during the incident.
By early October 2023, the investigation led to the identification of one suspect: 32-year-old Virgil L. Hobson of Sharpsburg. On October 5, the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office announced that Hobson was wanted for first-degree murder in connection with Davis's death. At that time, Hobson's last known address was 261 Camland Circle, Sharpsburg, NC.
A day later, on October 6, authorities apprehended Hobson, bringing him into custody to face charges related to the murder of John Davis. The Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office confirmed his arrest and continued to investigate the involvement of the remaining suspects.
As of now, information regarding the identification and apprehension of the other two suspects involved in the home invasion and robbery has not been publicly disclosed. The investigation remains active, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in bringing all responsible parties to justice.
