On April 11, 2024, a tragic incident occurred at the Ashley Meadows Apartments in Columbus, North Carolina, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Dwight Alexander "Alex" Bennett from Landrum, South Carolina. The Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 1:09 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies found Bennett deceased and another individual, identified as Chris Rickman, injured. Rickman was transported to a hospital for treatment and later released.
