On the morning of April 27, 2024, at approximately 9:10 a.m., Goldsboro Police Department officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at Kim’s Beauty Supply, located at 718 East Ash Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 26-year-old Kristopher Marquise Faison in the parking lot, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency Medical Services transported Faison to UNC Health Wayne, where he was pronounced dead.
Following an investigation by the Goldsboro Police Department’s Investigative Services Bureau and Crime Scene Unit, 20-year-old Goldsboro resident Hakeem Khalib Coley was identified as a suspect. Later that evening, at approximately 7:19 p.m., Coley was apprehended without incident in the 800 block of Olivia Lane by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office ACE Team. He was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a stolen firearm, and was held without bond in the Wayne County Detention Center.
As the investigation progressed, authorities identified a second victim, 55-year-old Julian Earl Edwards of Goldsboro, who was present during the incident but was not injured. Consequently, Coley faced an additional charge of attempted first-degree murder related to Edwards. This charge was filed while Coley remained in custody, and he continued to be held without bond pending further court appearances.
The tragic death of Kristopher Faison and the subsequent arrest of Hakeem Coley have had a profound impact on the Goldsboro community. The case remains under active investigation as authorities seek to understand the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
