On August 7, 2024, at approximately 4:30 a.m., the Halifax County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting at a residence on Mary's Chapel Road in the Scotland Neck area. Upon arrival, deputies and detectives discovered the bodies of 53-year-old Desiree Lynne Bass and a 54-year-old male, both deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
